Seeking the Best Sources

Trust in journalism is at a historic low. According to Gallup, just 28% of Americans say they trust mass media, down from 53% two decades ago. Knowing which sources deserve our attention has become a real challenge.

"Never in the history of the world have we had easier access to more information—some of it true, some of it false, and much of it partially true. Consequently, never… has it been more important to learn how to correctly discern between truth and error."

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "What Is Truth?", CES Devotional, January 2013

For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one way to navigate this landscape is to consider what Church leaders themselves have referenced. This project documents mainstream news sources cited in General Conference. While a citation does not imply endorsement, these references offer a window into the kinds of journalism that informed leaders engage with, and a starting point for our own careful evaluation.

""If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.""
